Susan G. Komen Foundation

I have been fortunate not to have contracted breast cancer and pray that I never will be diagnosed with any form of cancer. I have family and friends who are less fortunate and have had either breast cancer or another form of cancer. Let’s put an end to this non-discriminating disease by supporting the Susan G. Komen Foundation and one day, a cure will be found!   www.komen.org

LuvYourGirls.com; “Healthy Girls are Happy Girls”!

Through Facebook, I met Susan H. Schaffer. Susan is a breast cancer survivor and founded LuvYourGirls.com. Her belief & motto is “Healthy Girls are Happy Girls”! Susan’s positive and energetic outlook on life along with her willingness to help others is why we hit it off immediately! We enjoy each other’s friendship through correspondence and I look forward to one day meeting Susan in person. In addition to supporting “our girls” and their health, we also have another common bond. Creativity. My creative energy is directed into jewelry & mosaics where as Susan is talented in many more mediums. Please read below about Susan and how her artwork has impacted her life and cancer survival. Visit her website and please support LYG! ☺

Susan H. Schaffer is an artist in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and works in many mediums; oil painting, graphite, photography and bead work. In September of 2004, Susan was diagnosed with breast cancer. While going through this journey, she needed to find purpose in why she was stricken with this terrible disease. It became clear that her artwork was her purpose. She donates her artwork to Fox Chase Cancer Center; St. Luke’s Cancer Center; The Wellness Community Center, Pennsylvania and Raritan Bay Medical Center, New Jersey. Her artwork is featured in Lily Oncology on Canvas 2008 Exhibit, which is touring the country. She was a chosen finalist in the Photographer’s Forum 2009 Collection. Her artwork can also be viewed at www.ArtStudio59.com.

Susan is celebrating her fifth year as a cancer survivor and though she keeps busy with her art, she wanted to help others who also have breast cancer. She founded www.LuvYourGirls.com and through LYG, she is bringing together other artists who share their artwork, poetry, music, body art and stories.

LuvYourGirls.com is on Facebook and Twitter. Please log onto www.LuvYourGirls.com and join the movement in healing with art.

Alzheimer’s Association

My support for the Alzheimer’s Association has a deep personal meaning to me because both my Mother and Grandfather (her dad), lost their battle with this devastating brain disease. My Grandfather was diagnosed in the early 1980’s and passed away in the mid 1980’s. My Mom had the onset twenty years later in 2001 and passed away in 2005. They were both very intelligent and strong willed people, who conquered many personal and professional challenges throughout their lives. Alzheimer’s, unfortunately, remains a disease that even the strongest are powerless to defeat. As many as 5.3 million Americans are living with the Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing memory loss and problems with thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies, family and social functioning. Alzheimer’s gets worse over time, and is fatal. Today it is the seventh-leading cause of death in the United States.

If it remains uncured, this disease will undoubtedly affect someone you know if has not already. That someone could be YOU or ME. We have no control over whom it affects but we do have control in pushing for further research through our support. Please join me in supporting the Alzheimer’s Association so that one day there will be a cure because right now, there is no road to recovery with Alzheimer’s. It is a dead end.
